Season One

The Inflection
Point

  • Is craft still a differentiator if AI can generate a hundred options in ten seconds?
  • When engineering ships ten times faster, what does design even mean?
  • Am I here to make things, or just to approve them?
  • Does taste matter anymore — or just throughput?
  • Will the next generation of designers learn to design, or just to prompt?

Can design scale fast enough to matter?

About the host

Steven Schkolne

Designer, Computer Scientist, Founder

I built the world's first creative tools for virtual reality — a decade and a half before the technology was commercially available. I hold a PhD from Caltech, taught at CalArts, and spent a decade running a Los Angeles agency whose clients included Coca-Cola, Target, and Mattel. I've been writing and thinking seriously about human-machine creativity for twenty years.

Which is why the questions coming out of this moment feel so urgent to me. The Inflection Point is my attempt to find out — from the people actually in it — what design becomes next.
